Understanding Feature Indicators
Comparison tables use three types of value indicators:
- Checkmark (โ): Feature is included
- X mark (โ): Feature is NOT included
- Custom text: Specific limits or details
When to Use Each
Checkmarks - Use when:
- Feature is fully included with no limits
- Binary yes/no situation
- Feature is identical across multiple tiers
X Marks - Use when:
- Feature is completely excluded
- Not available at this tier
- Upgrade required
Custom Text - Use when:
- Feature has limits (5 users, 100 GB)
- Partial availability
- Add-on option ("Available at checkout")
๐ก Psychology: Checkmarks = positive reinforcement. X marks = clear exclusion. This visual language is instantly understood by all users.
Adding Checkmarks and X Marks
1 Select Feature Cell
Click on the cell where you want to add a checkmark or X mark.
2 Click Icon
In the toolbar, click either:
- โ button for checkmark
- โ button for X mark
Or type directly:
- Type: โ or "yes" or "true" โ Auto-converts to green checkmark
- Type: โ or "no" or "false" โ Auto-converts to red X mark
Customizing Appearance
Color Options
Customize colors in table settings:
- Checkmark color: Default: Green (#00aa00)
- X mark color: Default: Red (#cc0000)
- Custom colors: Match your brand
Size and Style
- Size: Auto-scales to table size
- Style: Clean circles with white icons
- Mobile: Touch-friendly sizes
โ ๏ธ Accessibility: Don't rely solely on color. Checkmarks and X marks have distinct shapes so colorblind users can differentiate them.
Best Practices
Consistency
- Use checkmarks for ALL included features
- Use X marks for ALL excluded features
- Don't mix styles (some checkmarks, some "Yes" text)
Strategic Use
- Create clear tiers: Lower tiers should have more X marks
- Show progression: More checkmarks as price increases
- Highlight differences: Features that vary are most important
Visual Balance
Aim for:
- Each column has a mix of โ and โ
- Clear visual differences between tiers
- Not too many X marks (feels negative)
- Not all checkmarks (no differentiation)
